Stuff I've been working on recently

Post by elektro on Sun 22 May - 9:27

So, it's been a while since I posted anything of mine (last time I was here, I was promoting someone else's comic), and I felt like showing what I was up to lately.

For the last two months, I have been working on two very different comic stories. One is a light-hearted tale told like a wordless children's story and using traditional methods (hand-inked and colored). The other is the polar opposite: a dark, sinister, and quite disturbing story styled like a combination between Sin City and an 80s punk flyer, drawn traditionally but using Illustrator for color effects.

The darker story is complete. I've posted a preview page of it along with a link to the story itself below. I'm working on the lighter story as I type this.

Who is Mr. Smiley?

It's quite stark and sinister, Elektro! Was this your aim?

Yep. Got another comic story coming pretty soon which is in the opposite direction, but in the meantime here's something I just finished that I'm sending to a charity auction:

And something I did for my dad on Father's Day:

Really cutting-edge, near-the-knuckle work, Elektro!

There is passion and artistry in there: Stickman is brutal, but vibrant and compelling.

Thanks. Really appreciate the compliments.

I said I was going to post when my next story begins, well it does today. Introducing "Mookie and Molly":

I recently got some work into an art show in Kenosha. These are some pictures of the hung works, alongside the unaltered originals I'm holding up to the camera:

In case anyone wants to see the actual works themselves:

I wasn't sure of the best place to post this, but I've got a new portfolio site up now. Link is in the image.

Really funky stuff elektro, it's looking very cool indeed. Clever watermarking as well. The whole package is coming nicely together. Keen eye for colour coordination and visually appealing. Well done. Seriously smart.

Show us the link Rob? PPH is the only one one that is English Sterling £ and the only one I haven't managed to crack so far.

It's actually better when a potential client goes into such detail, Simon; mostly directions for these jobs are very vague, and what you offer is not what they want---I get around this by e-mailing them rough pencil sketches in first.

I got a bit of interest on this one, then nothing-----I mailed them in a quick sketch this morning, so it's not for the want of trying!

POSTSCRIPT: there's female toonsmiths bidding on this one as well, so may the best man OR woman win!!

Yours grovelingly-PC.

I don't need to tell you that you shouldn't hold your breath or get too excited by now and what my biggest bone of contention is about these sites is that they can just cancel a Job willy nilly which should not be allowed in my mind. They should be penalised by this and stated in their Reviews. Don't forget that when a Project is completed it's not just the Providers (not just on their Art but their communication skills as well) that are reviewed but the Employers as well by the winning Artist. It's all about building a reputation and this works both ways. I've expressed this view to what I deem as the correct corners and I'm hoping heads will roll.
