Hello, everybodies!

Post by Sketch Reed on Wed 20 Apr - 12:33

Hello everybodies!

I'm Sketch Reed. I'm a cartoonist hailing from the not-so-great state of Missouri. I've been drawing cartoons for nearly all my life (the first thing I ever drew was a comic book..true story), and I'm in college now, at East Central in Union. I currently run my own small-press publishing outfit, Sketch Xaviar Reed Artistic Productions. We specialize in minicomics, but also publish a few zines and web comics as well.

Anyways, when I signed up for ECC, I decided to be a Fine Arts Major. Big mistake. There's a huge dissonance between the "draw realistic stuff, cartoons aren't art" mentality of the art world (at least at ECC) and my "I draw stories" mentality. For me, my art has always existed to tell a story, or to build a world for a story to take place in...and sadly, most of the art community at ECC hates me for it. (Hence why I hang out with the gamer crowd.)

A little more about me. I'm rather eccentric (as are most of us cartoonist types), and I have an affinity for plush toys. Some people have cats, some people have dogs...I have plushies. My desk is currently occupied by Dylan the Elf Doll, Mr. Googles (a Huggly plushie...Huggly is written and illustrated by Todd Arnold, check it out sometime), Bongo (an alien), and Ferdinand The Turtle (a TY turtle Beanie Baby that always follows me around). I also have a lovely girlfriend named Alicia, who makes appearances in a lot of my work, and who gave me Ferdinand and Bongo. <3

Anyways, found you guys on Google, and decided to drop in, become a member and make some new friends. I look forward to meeting all of you. If you want, comment on this thread and tell me something about yourself! Or better yet, Skype me! My Skype username is "sketchreed". (Kind of obvious, I know, but whatev.)

*cyber hug* Look forward to meeting you guys!

Hello, back, Sketch! Welcome to the forum - I'm in Michigan. Glad to hear you aren't letting the art snobs hold you back. After all, cartoonist often draw things that you won't find in real life, which is very creative and sometimes takes a great deal of thought. (Like a recent cartoon I did for someone at work - an armadillo laying in a lawn chair, drinking a beer. Not something you could Google!)

A little about me - I work full time and have only a little slip of time after work for living a real life, so I'm a sloooow cartoonist. With summer coming (and yard work) I'm sure it will slow me down even more. I'm part of a trio that plays at renaissance faires, I love dogs and animals and I like to draw silly, cute, funny (hopefully!) cartoons. I have a shop on Zazzle and it has a cartoon section - my website is www.kathysdotcom.com, and you can get to my shop from there.

That's it for now, I gotta get back to work!
cheers

Kathy

Hi

Welcome Sketch Smile We're very pleased to have you here, do jump right in and start posting poics of your work and take advantage of free self promo opportunity in work section of the forum where members can post their profiles for wider public to view.
