Hi all

I have decided to make the chit chat room public as there is some nice freindly and useful dialogue there that might entice new members to join us. I can create a private members room, though presently there is little point. Also please don't forget we have the chat box!

Only registered members can log-in and see and join in the chat so that is quite private.

Frustrated

Post by stixx3969 on Sun 11 Apr - 16:20

Does this ever happen to you guys? Just when I thought I was getting used to and accepting my own style, I still keep finding myself trying to emmulate others. I don't know, maybe it's natural but it sure is frustrating.

I don'y try to emulate one, but that's doesn't mean to say it doesn't look like someone elses from time to time. That is inevitable as there are only so many variations of a theme and of course there will always be subliminal influences and learned styles and so on.

The only other styles that I would want to vaguely rip off are those that look obviously faster than mine without compromising my integrity or that of the design. But yes Leah, you are quite right. You will probably have to kiss a lot of frogs until you find your Prince. Don't be shy to copy styles that appeal to you, it's not a crime. When you evolve, you will "make it your own" to paraphrase Simon Cowell.

need help

Post by DaD O Matic on Wed 30 Jun - 7:12

Hi All, I posted 4 pieces using a digital camera. My question is everyone elses work is nice and crisp.
What do I need to do to improve the quality of my uploads. I also would apppreciate any and all help on pen and pencil choices, paper ect..I'm using an HB pencil and manga pens, never used them before, but I like the way they feel and look on paper. Thanks DaD O Matic.

Hi Dad O Matic and welcome to the forum! Well for someone who hasn't picked up a pen in 30 years, you certainly seem to have a have a visually clear and consistent style. I don't think the problem with the quality of your uploads lies in the materials you are using so much as the fact that were taken with a digi- cam. What you need is a scanner to get picture- perfect quality. Smile

Thank you, Simon lake, I'm not at home and there is no scanner her, so I will pick one up.
I was drawing from the age of 4 till about 23, then just stopped. Now the creative flow is non-stop,really happy to be holding a pen again. As a kid my favorite artist was Sergio Arrogones from the early mad magazines. He was the guy that drew those little pics between the pages, I could'nt get enough of him. So in a way he was my mentor though I never met him. I would like to thank you all for making me feel welcome! cyclops

They normally come as a package as a 3- in -one scanner/ photocopier/ printer these days. Though I've never quite got the idea of photocopying. The latest Nikon is supposed to be economical on ink. They're about £40 in the UK.
