How to resize images and set or change DPI of pictures

Post by Leah-Admin on Tue 20 Jul - 10:13

Like me you might be wondering how to resize images and pictures for use for various types of printing.

I found this helpful site regarding how to resize pictures and set or change the dpi.

http://www.rideau-info.com/photos/changedpi.html

I then downloaded free program XnView

http://www.xnview.com/en/index.html

I have used it to change size and dpi of a cartoon I drew for a client who had previously had the cartoon rejected by t-shirt printer VistaPrint due to low resolution.

After using this program to resize (to 1600 x 1200 pixels) and changed dpi to 300, Vistaprint accepted the cartoon.

The client will let me know if there are any problems but this was process I followed.

Good luck!

Any more tips and advice please do put them here as anyone who wants to provide cartoon services will need to update themselves on the technical side if they want to assist their clients beyond just providing the art work.

Leah you are looking way too much into it. It shouldn't matter if the final delivery is 300 or 72 dpi. I can do that for you in 2 minutes. Pixels yes you need to be concerned about.

VP only acceptes 1600 x 1200 re t-shirt printing, so I managed to change image to meet that.

I am worried about clarity.

That is really their job at the end of the day. There's only so much you can do as a Graphic Artist. Don't let them take the piss.

Yep, I asked about this on another forum and a printer came back and said he resizes the images and ensures quality etc. so that is good news. As long as I make this clear on my site it should be ok. I've added a clause re it in my terms.
