Well as I said I only stumbled across this thing the other day, shall we say for an avatar...3-5?

The complicated part is how I uplaod the thing so you can see it! I couldn't see the one I made except in the program Smile But I will figure it out.

I'm going to do an animated toon for myself at some point featuring me and my dog running around the settee after eachother (regularly occurring event!).
I tried to do a fixed toon, but you can't really get the drift of how mad this scene looks in real life!

Simon great stuff re the evolution of your work, yes I am very interested in these things, from knowing what pens people use and allsorts, so great stuff. I think we should perhaps duplicate it in it's own thread, or how about I create a blog for it in this section?

Also great cartoon Simon, congrats on your comission! I'm sure client will be delighted with results.

Yes, that's just what I was thinking. It could be an ongoing thing for people to share and observe various methods. I often look at a cartoonist/ illustrator's work and think: "how the hell did he/ she do that?", as I'm sure we all do. I know we are a bit scarce off the ground still for members, but it could evolve into....in fact, call the thread "Evolution." lol.

Leah and Simon, , if you ever work out how to animate an avatar, [and I'm sure the results will be seen on here if you hopefully succeed] I would be interested in doing a small animation......but one step at a time, of course.

I would probably keep it simple, as there's a lot of work in animation obviously, but there's no denying it would stand out.

Well I've been looking and from what I can gather, it's basically software that you have to buy in the shop, but I did stumble on this freebie one and tried it, but I think it's for a very basic flashing effect. If you google "How to create an animated GIF", you will see the various options. There is one tutorial to create one in Photoshop, but it's for a 200" x 200" document, which is not a lot of kop.

My software does lots of things and cost me £6 Smile

I created an animation yesterday

Meaningless experiment. I'll see if I can upload the thing.

The process was simple though. I just load a series of pics and press 'go' and they 'animate'.

post it anyway, Leah: I would like to see it.

Thanks for looking anyway, Simon: your avatar is much-enhanced by colour, by the way.

This is it

It's tiny as I was working in tiny logo format. The image was me messing about with repeating patterns, shapes and what not, leaf type effect and the words, meaningless tick-tock just to see how the animation re text worked.

The process though is very easy. if you have a series of pics, I can probably make you an animation in 1 minute.

Here's a better one I just made.

I used two pics here, same image one in colour one with colour inverted and added words 'party' and 'on' as it looked like a mad party when I animated it!

I haven't had time to draw a series of pics specifically for animation yet, but as you can see animating the pics is not at all difficult.

striking stuff, Leah! OK:I will have to come up with an idea for an animated logo..........

meantime, some members of CCGB thought that my cat character resembled D C THOMSONS' KORKY a bi too much...I do concede there is a similarity in design, however a straight comparison points out the differences as hopefully illustrated here:

Many cartoonists follow a definite cartoon 'style' of cartooning. In which case I guess you can't accuse someone of copying when the copied style is 'uniform' throughout the industry.

Thus the fact they are able to come up with a 'name' re whose art yours resembles is demonstrative of uniqueness perversley. I can see similarlities here, but this is still your cat, very distinctive and unique.

And yours is better!

wow, you're so kind, Leah! I actually drew KORKY for Thomson when I was in my mid-20s, so I like to think I know when I'm not ripping other characters off: my humour is more brash and less gentle than Korky, to boot: I have atomic bomb explosions, alien invasions etc in my strips!
