It's very nice, very psychadelic colouring. Smile

I read a top tip recently..you will note this tip has been widely applied to my pop art style
Caricatures
and that is to keep a simple colour palette. So my only suggestion here woul perhaps be to apply that tip ie varying shades of oranges/yellows or varying shades of blues and greens..but perhaps not all together Smile

Thank you so much, mr flatcap: I am concentrating on colouring some of the best strips at the moment, but some brand new material is planned for very soon.

It's been a baptism of fire, but it's been invaluable practice that has seen my stuff improve markedly.

Can't believe I haven't posted this on here already: here's an epic colouring job done by the eminently talented Rich Skipworth, on one of my b/w line drawings......fantastic colouring job!

Wow!! Great coloring job, and Rich's work is wonderful! I wonder if he'd be willing to share some tips with us here?

It's very good Rab Smile Couple of areas re skirting board behind table and space by dogs feet need correction, other than that looks fabulous Smile You're a lover of colour like me! Other thing I noticed was red puddle under glam babes feet...I know this is the juice from bottle but looks a bit like somat else Wink

I like the natural painted effect it has. The image still has the appeal of hand drawn hand shaded image.

Yes, it's getting there gradually, Leah.......it's still a bit too bright-looking I think but overall it's heading in the right direction. I got a bit fed up doing GIMP and stopped for a couple of months. When I returned I got on a lot better with GIMP. Still a few things to learn on it [the drop-shadows, remember!] but it's very good indeed for a free colouring programme. I'll be sticking with it now.

I will likely get around to those corrections eventually----it's possible to fix almost anything digitally.

Stunning work Rob! You should very proud of this. Your colouring is as good as Rich' s as far as I can see. The bright colours have a certain appeal to me.

Nice. It has an almost hand- painted feel about it which is good.

yes--it's trying to disguise it to look like a painting, Simon!

I must admit though, last week I watched some very polished 1950s Disney Donald Duck cartoons on youtube, and the best of their painted backgrounds looked far superior to any digital stuff I have encountered anywhere.......

So what is the technique you used? Huh? Huh?

I build up the colours [of both characters and backgrounds] gradually, Simon: using the lassoo tool, I put in an undercoat --usually of a flat colour----then add another level of colour, sometimes setting the 'gradient' mode to 'dissolve', which gives a more rounded, 'airbrushed' look.

There's no need to overdo it, though--flat colours and 'airbrushed' colurs together look fine when combined.

If you try this, turn down the percentage of the gradient tones a bit, though [just try experimenting] as it's usually too overpowering at 100%.
