Re: All my own shirk......
It's very nice, very psychadelic colouring.
I read a top tip recently..you will note this tip has been widely applied to my pop art style
Caricatures
and that is to keep a simple colour palette. So my only suggestion here woul perhaps be to apply that tip ie varying shades of oranges/yellows or varying shades of blues and greens..but perhaps not all together

Re: All my own shirk......
great stuff, polished drawings. cartunes that is one massive undertaking your on i doff my cap to you sir
Re: All my own shirk......
Thank you so much, mr flatcap: I am concentrating on colouring some of the best strips at the moment, but some brand new material is planned for very soon.
It's been a baptism of fire, but it's been invaluable practice that has seen my stuff improve markedly.

Re: All my own shirk......
Can't believe I haven't posted this on here already: here's an epic colouring job done by the eminently talented Rich Skipworth, on one of my b/w line drawings......fantastic colouring job!

Re: All my own shirk......
Wow!! Great coloring job, and Rich's work is wonderful! I wonder if he'd be willing to share some tips with us here?
Re: All my own shirk......

this is probably my first properly finished cartoon, using different layers. Hope ya like it!
Re: All my own shirk......
It's very good Rab
Couple of areas re skirting board behind table and space by dogs feet need correction, other than that looks fabulous
You're a lover of colour like me! Other thing I noticed was red puddle under glam babes feet...I know this is the juice from bottle but looks a bit like somat else
I like the natural painted effect it has. The image still has the appeal of hand drawn hand shaded image.

Re: All my own shirk......
Yes, it's getting there gradually, Leah.......it's still a bit too bright-looking I think but overall it's heading in the right direction. I got a bit fed up doing GIMP and stopped for a couple of months. When I returned I got on a lot better with GIMP. Still a few things to learn on it [the drop-shadows, remember!] but it's very good indeed for a free colouring programme. I'll be sticking with it now.
I will likely get around to those corrections eventually----it's possible to fix almost anything digitally.

Re: All my own shirk......
Stunning work Rob! You should very proud of this. Your colouring is as good as Rich' s as far as I can see. The bright colours have a certain appeal to me.

Re: All my own shirk......
Nice. It has an almost hand- painted feel about it which is good.

Re: All my own shirk......
yes--it's trying to disguise it to look like a painting, Simon!
I must admit though, last week I watched some very polished 1950s Disney Donald Duck cartoons on youtube, and the best of their painted backgrounds looked far superior to any digital stuff I have encountered anywhere.......

So what is the technique you used? Huh? Huh?

Re: All my own shirk......
I build up the colours [of both characters and backgrounds] gradually, Simon: using the lassoo tool, I put in an undercoat --usually of a flat colour----then add another level of colour, sometimes setting the 'gradient' mode to 'dissolve', which gives a more rounded, 'airbrushed' look.
There's no need to overdo it, though--flat colours and 'airbrushed' colurs together look fine when combined.
If you try this, turn down the percentage of the gradient tones a bit, though [just try experimenting] as it's usually too overpowering at 100%.
