Re: All my own shirk......
I'm having a problem adding images, Simon! The first two were flukes......I will persevere though.
Glad the forum is running smoothly.

They look as great as usual to me mate. Thanks for sharing! Are you going to join our Comic Jam?

Re: All my own shirk......
As long as 'jam' means cartooning and not preservatives or guitar-playing, I surely will Simon! I will have to look into the apt. thread.
Re: All my own shirk......
I'll have to take a closer look at these. Looks like you've been busy! Here's the Jam thread. We haven't even started yet so good timing.

Re: All my own shirk......
OK, that's the first set of test drawings added. There's more on the way, I aim to try out about three new strips this year as well as one-off satire gags [they'll all be shown on here].
The new logo is very good...looks like your style, Simon!

WEll done!
You did a really good job of this, may I ask what program you used?
Re: All my own shirk......
It's the free service GIMP 2, Leah. To be honest, it's quite complicated to get used to, but I am persevering with it, and as can be seen, I can manage 'flat' artwork like the above, done quite quickly with the bucket tool.
I still have a lot to learn, though.....I' d like to try gradiated colour like you done on your Wedding illustration recently.
How do you drop in gradiated colour of different tones for the background, instead of just flat colour like the above?
Can you do it on one layer, or do I need a second layer?
Or do you have to 'cut out' the foreground characters?
Any advice would be very helpful on this score, Leah, and I would be happy to post my results on here if successful.

Re: All my own shirk......
I am not sure how you do this in GIMP, I mainly use Pixia (also free) which is a much less complicated program and perhaps you might find it easier to use? You can get to hand with the colouring aspect very quickly.
They have a tab that allow you to select what time of area you want the colour for a shadow to appear. For example, just in the middle, or round the outer edges, to the side etc. Then you simply do your full colour selection (bucket fill) then you select the shadow tab option and select another colour and then add it again with bucket tool.
So it's just one extra step.
It will be added then automatically as a new layer but without having to create layers, name layers, select layers and all that. Literally just happens automatically.

Regarding the wedding pics (if it's the royal wedding) then I used a different program altogether for that but again the gradient colour is something you simply selection via a single 'gradient' option tool. With that you select both the colours at one time. So if you want to undo the gradient selection, both colours are removed not just one.
I'm not great at detailing technical things you may have noticed!!
Which is why
I found you this!!

This guide takes you step by step through the process using screen shots.
