(YES! This is a late reply indeed.)

If you set goals, you should also reflect to find out wether you achieved your goals.

Do you believe you did?

Ok let's see Smile

Did I achieve my goals?

I did indeed create some cartoon caricatures. I did quite a few of the 2010 x-Factor judges and contestants and have done a couple for clients.

I have NOT learned how to use that software thing. No time, despite being very willing.

I am very fortunate presently to be working every day cartooning for clients and have a regular gig that will keep me busy for the forseeable future.

I have though GOT to find time to learn more graphic design skills and master adobe illustrator (will be getting this soon) as clients are requiring formats for magazine printing and so on and I need to be able to deliver. It's a challenge, but it's exciting and I'm doing my very best to meet it.

I was asked for a vector image today so I have to get on with this all pretty pronto!

Your clients don't like freeware programs like gimp, paint.net and inkscape? :p
Personally, I don't see that much advantage in illustrator or photoshop, as I can do everything I want in the freeware. (sometimes with some thinking about tricks to achieve certain effects, but ok...)

I've just downloaded GIMP and advised my client I have done so and hope it will suffice. Client has already offered to meet the cost of Illustrator but as far as I can tell after quick look, this program will do what I need it to do at least, issue thus is can it save in file formats that magazine accept? I think it will do. Anyway we'll see what client says, but it certainly looks good at first glance and will resolve my current problem which is faint lines!

Leah, does Gimp do vector? I've used Inkscape, and it is definitely vector, but I thought Gimp was not....but maybe that's incorrect.

Hi Kathy

I'm not sure, all I know is I can finally get a nice clear outline Smile That has been eluding me since I started putting my work online. My client today requeswed vector but is able to accept pdf also, so I've forwarded pdf doc and he's very happy with it 9now I've sorted out clarity issues!).

You can save and open many different filetypes in Gimp, but it's not vector.

Nice clear outline = you see no weird white pixels near your black lines after filling with the paint bucket? I use a very different way to fill areas so i won't get any weird white pix in the lines.

Oh, you can also set the dpi. Apeldoornextra always wants 300 dpi. The standard setting of gimp is 200 dpi, I thought.
