Review my cartoon website

Post by Leah-Admin on Thu 25 Mar - 2:23

I am only doing this so as to kick start this new 'review my cartoon website' forum, so please be gentle.

My business website and the page relating to gag cartoons (as my website caters towards article writing as well as cartoons) is here:

http://artist-writer.com/GAGS.html

I created this site myself using Vista Print. I have these vistor results (on average) weekly:

Last 7 Days: 18/03/2010 - 25/03/2010
Total Visitors: 445
Total Page Views: 593

Most of these visitors are from referrals from other sites.

My cartoon blog is much more successful at collecting related searchengine traffic and I find that people travel from my blog to that site, so in tandem the two work well together. My needs for these sites are minimum as I work part time and am kept reasonably busy.

Please feedback in any way you think fit! And remember be gentle!

I like it Leah, I know a bit of html but I created my lafflines site with expression web 2. I used tables to constrain the proportions of my jpegs but I believe this is bad practice so my feedback regarding the fact that there are a number of cartoons you have to scroll through doesn't have a solution! I would maybe look at setting a few cartoons side by side to rein in the scrolling aspect, but as I only know how to do this through tables, I don't know how you would do it [if you wanted to that is!] That aside, I like the content and colour scheme and the headers and footers, it is economical but could, I feel, be more so.

Thank you Grant Smile

There are a few things I can re the images as they have various gallery options.

I opted for the scrolling down one as for me this was the most user friendly as the rest require me or the client to enlarge the image in order to see it properly. But I shall have another look into the options available.

Onthe front page I have a slide show and in samples I have thumbnails, so there are a few alternatives.

Here's mine.http://cartoonsbylake.co.uk/
I also used Vista to build this and have just upgraded to platinum. Leah, yours is looking good. The Zazzle thing works and I love the mug/ contact me cartoon. From a more analytical angle, try to use the same font throughout the site (apart from the banner) and the white text on cyan blue doesn't work (the captions to the images on home page, I can't read them). I'm not sure if having so many pages is a good idea but that's just me. Is that "Leah Gray Artist & Writer" banner a font?

I think it is a font, meanwhile in theory all text should be comic sans.

The problem re the white font and text is I can't edit or change that. These tables can't be edited which is a real pain! You are also correct re 'too many pages' but
they are neccessary else there is too much info on one page. I suppose one way around it is to have the pages but not listed in the menu and then have links to them instead. I think unlisted menu items are still published. I'll look into it.

Meanwhile your site is looking really professional now Simon and the toons are top notch!

Thanks. Almost time to hit the UKBF. It took me the whole day yesterday just to get those feeds in the same order on each page. And there's me thinking you painted that banner?

I've amended my website

http://www.artist-writer.com

Removed lots of content and hidden some pages.

What do you think?

Quality. Make the "GAGS" & "GIFTS" links lowercase as well.
