Caricatures- a career.

Post by Simon Lake on Sun 14 Mar - 13:42

This makes a very interesting read. Wether or not the actual package is a viable proposition is debatable. It probably won't turn you into the next Sebastian Kruger or Emily Anthony.

The thing about caricatures for me is to not make your subject ugly or distorted as they do. Flattery will take you further.

I've hijacked this thread from another post for prosperity. If you can get your caricatures to look any good at the same resolution as a phone then kids will download them as wallpaper and you'll get paid every time. More about this:

I would imagine the specs Jim gave us for the i phone brief would be good. (the standard 320 x 480px at 72 ppi.) http://www.cartoonist-forum.com/work-offers-f8/cartoonists-needed-t127.htm

These are really really really good Simon (did I also mention they were REALLY good?)

All these need to be seen on your site under their respective headings.

When peeps come looking for artist work they may not like one style but may like something else.

I was asked while ago to collaborate on a children's book re art and the art style the guy liked (of mine) was a highly intricate oil crayon drawing. The fact he wanted that style ruled me out of the project as that type of art takes far too long for me to be able to keep up through an entire book and cost effectively! But had that pic not existed he may not have even asked! Everyones taste in art is so variable which is fabulous really.

These are not caricatures of course but protraits, drawn by me way back in 1996-97 using pastels. They are of course Adam Ant and James Dean

Free Caricatures.

Post by haydnlock on Sun 13 Feb - 9:07

Ladies and Gentlemen.

http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Haydn-Locks-Free-Cartoon-Service/187387687962318?sk=wall

I am starting a free service for a short period of time. (Free caricatures.) That’s my project this year. Make a request if you are interested on the wall to the following link,
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Haydn-Locks-Free-Cartoon-Service/187387687962318?sk=wall.

Be aware that if you are chosen then you have to permit me to have access to your ‘Facebook’ account. Your image will be posted on the wall and a high resolution JPEG will be emailed direct to your email account.

Take advantage of the service come up with an original idea. Do you want to become a hot air balloon or have the body of Arnold Schwarzenegger?????

Good Luck

H R LOCK. (http://www.themagnificentmindofhaydnlock.com/)

What a great forum, i am so glad to find you! I can see how much care and time you put into this, lots of resources kept right up to date.
I hope i can add a little now and then. So to keep this post on topic, may I add a link:

a nice UK-centric (quite rare) resource that some might find useful:
http://www.itool.co.uk/Interactive/artfees/2022.php(The artist's fees toolkit)

contains
A brief look at various ways of costing one's work, some online calculators to do your math for you (!) some useful hints on self-employment, as a contractor or as an employee, even some comments on (all party) government's lacklustre policy and attitude to the creative media as an industry and the rights of its skilled workers.

(the site is nothing to do with me, by the way! I'm not puffing it up for profit.)
