wow! The new member is a proper artist, with an easel, the lot! I dream of having even a seperate room for drawing.

I did go to a 'mature student's' art course in the mid-90s, but it was a waste of time apart from that's where I picked up colour work, the students were nice [though the tutors were pretentious] and the nude models, of course...

In retrospect, I suppose it was worthwhile [I'm a cartoonist, not really an 'artist', and the tutors hated my natural cartoon style.......they told me I would never pass, so I never entered my stuff, especially as they asked 17 quid or something for the 'privelige' of slagging off my unsuitable work.]

Of course you are an artist, those people were idiots.

My 7yr old daughter is an artist. An artist is anyone who enjoys drawing and draws. The aesthetics are in the eye of the beholder and guaranteed ALL art looks good to someone. I am a fan of Miro, now most people would NOT call that art. But I like it and of course it is art and sells as 'art'.

nicely put, Leah! It was and is the 'snobbish' outlook of 'fine artists' [many of who teach at art colleges] that put me off art college. I agree that to be able to enjoy drawing first and foremost is what it's all about, whether you are 3 or 103.

I've just been reading all of the above and I couldn't agree more about throwing yourself into cartooning and above all enjoying it! Here is an egg yolk of mine...

I have another egg gag almost complete, so hopefully tomorrow morning.......I have a 'what happens next' loosely following on from Grant's cartoon.
