Any tips: BaskerVille

Post by Brittbix on Mon 31 Oct - 12:46

Hiya again guys!!

Well since i last posted i been up to various things such as school and commissions but i have been focusing on a show i one day wish to bring to life.

BaskerVille is a place or unqiue people with animal liek features. Each person has a toy of their animal self.

For example the people look semi like this:

And Have a toy of themself like this

The cartoon will be a 2D animation but in a digital media. Vibrant colours will give the show a much more fun feel to it. The show itself will be aimed at younger audiences. Each episode will contain an adventure which leads to a nice moral at the end of the show, being able to befriend a new character each episode (getting to know more about one character) and will have some soft learning through the duration of the episode.

Yes i know im lacking the plot to the story, but each episode will be something entirely different. By the end of the series, the audience will know the town and most of the people who live there.

I just wanted some opinions (please not to harsh, i take everything and anything straight to heart) would this be a project worth doing... or is it to plain. If so how would YOU like to see it?

I don't plan to go out straight away and do this... im way to young to even try to start my business let alone try and create something this big. But if i can at least get the project started like character designs, episode plots and stuff like that down, then im taking a giant step into the right direction.

Well thats my idea for a show... apart from that i still need a company name. Which will hopefully i will come up with later on during the years.

OH and also before i forget i have a new speedpaint up on my youtube account!

Thanks for reading I love you I love you I love you

You don't need to worry at all about your talent, your ideas or your future.
Your skills are very advanced and there's no doubt you'll go far in the cartoon /animation industry and I'm not qualified to comment as you're skills are superior.

What I will say though is less can be more and in some cases the effects and colours could perhaps be reduced in quantity to allow greater clarity of the finished image as with some images I find myself straining to enjoy all the detail and there is a lot of rich detail to enjoy.

I myself have been told off re getting carried away in this department too and there is a fine line between demonstrating all your skills in a single image and losing the simplicity which can offer in the end the greatest appeal.

I hope that's a helpful comment!

I love your story idea btw. Smile

Naww thanks Leah! i hope i can, although i tend to doubt myself sometimes Crying or Very sad but there's nothing wrong with trying Smile

I know exactly what you mean. I could always dull background colors, it would take the effect of color burning peoples eyes out! i tend to like to overly use colors, i need to learn to dim down a bit but i think its mainly because my art tends to reflect my personality in many ways. When i'm not all to happy when drawing i tend to use very bland colors. It all by pure accident to be honest Smile But thank you soo much i will defiantly take your comment and work on that area. might even try some pastel, soft colors!

Thank Leah your comment was very helpful to me ^,^ <3

I'm terrible with colors. I like purple, and bright primary colors so everything ends up looking like a child's coloring book Rolling Eyes

I'm working on it. I start by choosing the colors for things that are expected to be a certain color. Green grass, blue water, flesh toned skin, maybe I know the main character is a brown bear or something. From there, I choose colors that (hopefully) compliment the cartoon overall. I'm trying to be more deliberate in my color choices rather than just randomly picking bright, happy colors. I cannot say, however, if things are improving, or if I'm just taking longer to get a cartoon done!

I thought i just add this here since it isnt to much a big deal but its on the same subject :>

Sam is my most developed character in this series, so i decided to do a little dress up game of him.

Mainly because i wanted to self teach myself more, and open up new opportunities for me :> This took 2 hours so yes it isnt the best, mainly cause im soo short on time at the moment x.x so i plan to make a detailed one later on for another few characters, i also plan on doing animated refs and all too! But till then here is my very basic game <3

Sadly i cannot place it here in text but i hope you don't mind that it is in link form.
It leads to my DA so no need to worry about an unknown, unsafe sight if your worried about that.. (doubt that you are though X3 )

I have the same problem, i lean to much to blues. Most characters i make contain blue or so. But bright colors always capture my attention when someone uses them Smile so that could be a good thing Wink

I tend to make un natural animals in which the colors highlight their personality ect. Purple is all dark and mysterious where orange is a playful fun color. I do at times try to create natural animals but its so hard to put the same personality to them... But i get exactly what you mean... sometimes i swear it feels like forever when i color things... its horrible X3
