Re: Straight digital or Bi ?
I'm sure plenty of lefties use dip pens...just sayin,... You'd start inking from the top right corner and work towards the bottom left. But I like the idea of a brush pen. I've tried a pentel, but it seemed really stiff. Didn't get much line variation unless I pressed really hard. What kind do you use?
I've used Inkscape at work, and it's pretty good-especially since it's free!

Give me pencil, inking by bottle and on paper any day...the best part of drawing, and saves on the electric!
Re: Straight digital or Bi ?
In England we don't concern ourselves with such frivolousness. In your neck of the woods trees and long grass are just places to let off a bit of frustration with some dubious trade.

I hope my paper comes from sustainable trees, Russ: but I just don't know!

I'm dowloading Inkscape as we speak !
Looks good so far
And I know what you mean about starting at the top right of a page....I just can't do it...I see a bit of inking that I want to do first, and the rest of the drawing kinda evolves from there....and it's NEVER the bit on the top-right....maybe one day I'll discipline myself ....but to be honest, with the pentels I doubt I'll ever have to.

Agree with the "real world" idea of pencilling and inking...
Although, I do feel that every job I do now is done in two completely different stages.
First is the pencilling and inking bit, which I'll either do at the drawing desk, or curled up on the sofa.
That part is brilliant...it's the "creation" stage if you like.
Then, once the inked version is scanned in, you've got the next job.
I hate all the jiggery-pokery with set up the multiplies on layers, converting to YMCK etc, but then it becomes a task to make the cartoon look as good as possible, which is just as enjoyable as the first stage.
( The final stage of course is just looking at the finished product and either pick holes in it, or gaze in awe and wonder at the marvellous skill you have.....
Re: Straight digital or Bi ?
We are kindered spirits, Russ! I have only been using the digital colouring for a few months, and I found it quite irritating at first-----great results though, and I am glad I stuck with it.
Re: Straight digital or Bi ?
Russ, check out vectormagic.com too, very easy tool to convert images to vector.
