This is my edited version which I may just put forward to Ira Glass and suggest some collaboration with us
Nobody tells this to people who are beginners. I wish someone had told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this Gap.For the first couple of years you make some stuff but it's just not that good. It's tying hard to be good and it has potential so they say. But your own particular taste and what got you into this game in the first place is the Killer element. The only problem with this is your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase and they quit. A lot of people I know that do a lot of interesting and creative work suffered Years of this. We know our own work doesn't have that special thing or that WOW Factor that we want it to have but we plod on. We all go through this in any walk of Life really and if you are just starting or you are still in this phase then you have to know that it's normaland the most important thing that you can do is a LOT OF WORK. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you finish at least one piece. It's only by going through a volume of work that you will ultimately close that gap and your work will be as good as your ambitions. I took longer to figure this out more than anyone I've ever met. It's gonna take a while but it's normal to take a while. You just gotta fight you way through.

There's some very wise words in that advice from Ira Glass; the Beatles struggled for years, and got turned down by every record company in the UK. David Bowie and Marc Bolan both put out flop singles as solo artists in the 60s, beoire finally finding fame in the early 70s. While they were struggling, they worked on developing their tunes and act, all of which came in very handy later on.
On the cartooning front, the most successful strip creator ever---Charles M Schulz, of Peanuts fame-----struggled for a few years before getting taken on.
So STICK TO IT, people: the most crucial line in the statement by Ira Glass is that 'most people give up before they're truly developed properly' [or words to that effect].

There is also some rule of thumb that states that you need 10000 hours of practice to become good in something. (Playing guitar, drawing cartoons, singing.)
Practice practice! Did anyone of you try any funny new things in his/her drawings lately?
EDIT: I tried to do some large landscapes and backgrounds in my entries for 'the black and white knight'. I wasn't really used to that. (Most of my older cartoons lack a background and show only the characters that the cartoon is about.)

Yep[ it's good to experiment outside your comfort zone. I do this often.
I had my 'different perspectives' re hands and feet phase my comic art phase, Manga experimentation, various really, it's ongoing. I now have about 15 books on different style of cartooning to inspire and educate me. Most recent was 'Hip Hop cartoon art' !!
Give me ten more years and I'll be sorted

I've heard that before, too. It's helpful in deciding what I truly am interested in (Do I want to work at it for 10,000 hours? If not, I realize that I don't really want to do the activity.)

I like this challenge!
I've been trying different "camera angles". Trying to get away from just the talking heads, or having the same view in each panel. Plus, working on a comic strip idea.
