Hey Greg.

Went to your website, your new art is really good, I'm intimidated LOL, but really keep the eraser side up and the lead side down. much success on the T-shirt designs.

Question, did you use PS on your new strips?

Regards Ron

Hi Ron-
Thanks for the complements! To be syndicated would be a dream come true!
As a cheap bastard, I only use GIMP. I am happy with the results but it bogs down my laptop sometimes (3 years old.)
I sent a few cartoons to friends and they've been sending them all over the internet so I've started adding copy right symbols - seem kind of weird.
Here is a previous cartoon that I colored in GIMP today (that is if I finally figured out how to upload an image to this site.)
Regards,

Almost got it figured out. I drew this cartoon in honor of Victor Frank. The Psychiatrist the wrote "Man's Search for Meaning." Of course, I don't know what it says about me that I find "meaning" in drawing cartoons. any Psychiatrists out there with a free opinion?

Regardless it's really good, vector like, xlnt shading.

You can sign up for The web comic list-latest online comics,twitter,zimbio,google1,ect..create a link by adding their buttons on your site.Every time you have a new post, link it, much faster than having others do it, plus your creating a fan base.

Also add KEY WORDS to your posts, search engines use algorythms to pick up all related seaches when someone googles, yahoos, bings ect.. google your website, see what page you show up on.

I'm in no way an X pert, just things I learned along the way.

Nice work Greg, I don't think that you are missing anything with using Gimp. I have read up on it and Photoshop has the advantage is user base, so help is plentiful, and higher color bits handling. I think 32 bits, whatever the case, it isn't an issue with cartooning and they are coming out with Gimp 2.8 soon, a big overhaul.

It's hard to beat free for the price too, the open source stuff is coming along very well, even the operating systems. You might consider partitioning your hard drive and installing Linux Ubuntu or Mint, or one of the laptop versions.

Many people use Linux on struggling hardware because of the overhead of Windows. It's a small learning curve but well worth it. There are thousands of free software options, very polished and as good or better than commercial sources.

Thanks Jim-
I appreciate the information. Running GIMP on my Window's Vista laptop can be excruciating at times. I will check into installing Linux. Am a bit leery of screwing up my machine - but if it speeds things up, I'm all in.
One of the great benefits of this forum is getting feedback from people like you! You are a great resource for all the membership!
On a personal note, one of my political cartoons may make it in the local paper. The back story is dog bites child, City impounds dog, dog owner hires attorney, protests by local dog lovers, City orders dog put down, stay of execution, dog housed in local pet hotel, dog stolen (liberated) from dog hotel (dog is on the lamb!) So, with the latest turn of events I immediately thought of the movie "The Great Escape" starring Steve McQueen, James Garner, etc. Drew up this toon and sent it in. Hope you find the humor in it.
Regard,
Greg C.

Hi Greg,
Yes, you must be careful messing with stuff. Especially Vista! lol
If you decide to try it, you can do so without messing with things by running a "Live CD". You find which version is best for your hardware, there's Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Mint, etc. You burn the iso image to a CD or DVD, don't copy the file over but burn as an image. I didn't understand the difference so had no luck at first.

The iso image acts like a hard drive so you can boot off of it, you should have an option to boot off of CD or USB, etc. You can run the OS off of the CD, it will be slower than a hard drive but you can see if you like it or if it likes your hardware.

If you decide to install it you can put it on a partition and dual boot. Vista or Linux. You have to create a partition first to play it say and I believe that Vista allows for resizing on the fly without losing your data. Obviously anything important should be backed up first.
