Hi to all.

Post by gagacol on Thu 11 Aug - 1:15

Hi all.
I'm a 54 year old published cartoonist living in sunny lancashire, kirkham near Preston to be precise.I'm a yorkshireman born and bred moving over here from Sheffield in 1975 to try and stop them eating one another!!A carpenter to trade and until recently an avid motorcyclist,am now registered disabled due to two serious accidents and deteriorating health(severely mis spent youth) Am now able to concentrate on my love of cartooning.I have a rather bizarre sense of humour and according to my circle of freinds am relatively quick witted.I do regularly cause people to spit tea out by saying something at an inopportune moment so that could be what they mean!! I had my first cartoon book published in 1995 and have done some humorous illustrations for an author freind back home, have had work in 'Trail walker' and '100%Biker'.It is since my health problems that I have had to give up my rather hectic/frantic lifestyle and begin to behave a little more sedately, consequently I have been busy doodling away and have completed two books and am working on a further two,my work cant get my full attention as I have two grandaughters that visit daily and they have a tendancy to A,nudge me,B,keep asking what I'm doing and C,why am I doing it!!!! That's it really. Very Happy

Can anyone tell me how to put one of my cartoons up? Bearing in mind that I am mentally still in 1974 and my son has to explain most things on my pc!!Cheers.

Good Day to you Sir and welcome to our humble abode. I would seriously like to see your work. "What are you doing?" .... yes I know that one. God I hate that. Surely someone of your calibre has a website though? The image server compatible with the Forum is http://www.servimg.com/
Upload/ File/ Browse and upload from your hard drive.........

Direct links at the bottom copy that link and then paste it into your post in the image icon inbetween the Host an image and Link icons at the top of *this dialogue box
but get them to do it for you first then you can say "WTF are you doing? (Lol)

You can also put stuff up in the Gallery....

I'm looking forward to it! Cheers from Southport.

Welcome! Yes, please, show us your work, we love cartoons and you won't even have to try to explain to us why you're doing them!

Seconded - show us some work - creating a small website may actually be easier than uploading pics Very Happy

Thanks for the welcome guys and gals,I have tried to upload...I really have, just keeps telling me cant do it for 7 days. Will try again next thursday!! Sadly I'm a computer idiot,my son taught me how to scan my work in and how to condense it,thus making it easier to send off to publishers, pity it does'nt stop them rejecting it!!!I recall when I got my cat book published in the 90s,it cost me an arm and leg in postage, lost count of how many I sent it to.Then when it was eventually accepted, they ruined it!! Insisted on a title change, and put all the cartoons in the wrong order, but they paid me so cant grumble, well I can...and do!!Must admit this email malarky does'nt half make it easier and a bloody sight cheaper!! But give me some paper and a pencil and I'm happy, anything more technical than that and I get a headache!!And as for my own website!!!Would'nt know where to start.Suppose I could ask my eldest grandaughter, she's just shy of going to secondary school and is always showing me how to do things on the pc!!! I'm safely tucked away in 1974...I like it there...It was great, supertramp in the charts and the doobie brothers, loads of parties. As Ian Dury so eloquently put it,'Sex and drugs and rock and roll' No wonder I'm goosed now!!!!! Very Happy

Dear Gagacol
most of us here are no spring chickens either... my impression is that quite a few here are mid-forties and fifties. It is never too late - and really ignorance ( feigning ignorance rather Very Happy
) is no excuse. The learning curve on the worldwide web is not steep. Not at all.

ps. the seven days thingy is probably built-in in the forum set-up. I registered here last week but could not post a link for seven days. That is probably to deter pranksters posting links to russian-bride and fake viagra sites amd such... so dont worry

Guys sorry I don't really know about that 7 day period although I suppose I should as Admin. It never used to be like that. Maybe Leah bieng overly paranoid again lol. I will look into it. Regarding the age thing, Cartooning is really an older Man's game (There are not a lot of Female Cartoonists for some reason) which is understandable if you think about it as it takes time to build an Empire. But it's what keeps us going through the years as we keep searching for that Fool's Gold. Charles Schulz (Peanuts) was only syndicated for the first time at the ripe old age of 56 or something like that apparently. As you all know he went on to become a Multi- millionaire and left behind a huge legacy.

I appreciate that some find the computer relatively easy and I admit I have learnt a lot considering I have only just begun using one,the problem for me,is with some of the side effects of my medication,I find it difficult to concentrate. Both my son and future son in law are pretty patient but I've heard the expletive 'christ I've just shown you!!' on more than one occasion,I've no doubt that eventually it will sink in but it's frustrating to say the least! I recall as an apprentice,I was one of only a few in my group that could set out and construct a double hipped roof so I'm not stupid. Also since the onset of heart disease I have become even more short tempered than I was before and I've always been a little volatile! As regards a website,I imagine that I would need a lot more work before hosting one,I'm not a professional and dont earn a living at it,I am hoping that at some point this may be the case but not at present. So please be patient and forgive me If I ask the same questions!! Very Happy

gagacol, can I call you Lady Gaga? Here is a link to the site where I built my personal website very easily. You don't need to be a web Designer to do this. It's fun and it's something for you to try with a 30 Day free trial period. http://www.create.net/ after which it costs £5 a Month to maintain.

But for you I think a blog would be more appropriate due to the sheer volume of stuff I would imagine you must have to publish. It's free and easy and it's here........
https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=blogger&passive=1209600&continue=http://www.blogger.com/home&followup=http://www.blogger.com/home<mpl=start#s01

I can help you set up either but I would have to have your email address and then you may have to shoot me. (Not really) No seriously, if you would like a lift with this then I'd be more than happy to set it up for you. I acheived a Merit at Southport College last year for Level 2 Web Design but for the life of me I can't design a website.

Let me make it clear I don't want any payment from said venture. It could if nothing else be an experience for me about Hosting as you call it and it would give me great pleasure to introduce you to the 20th Century and I think we should call your blog 'christ I've just shown you!!'

PM me or post right here if you are up for it.
