As well as the red lion, there is also a ‘best-before’ date on them (21 days after laying). Thanks for the info, Leah: my memories probably come from the days of black-and-white telly, hence the mistake! I do remember seeing the actual eggs with the stamp when I was very young, though: they must have been red after all.

I remember black and white telly.......we had it until I was 13! Early colour TVs were so expensive, most people rented them, even a lot of those with money....the colour wasn't all that good either, but a technological marvel at the time.

I saw the 'BOY with Green Hair' on a b/w telly in the 70s, Leah!

Late 60s b/w football matches on TV were painful to watch, Grant: a little white dot for the ball! [Possibly for TV coverage, the balls were changed to white, but that's just my theory] : still very popular, however.......

Yes I think they could have been red or black. They're not that old fashioned. I'll bet you could still see them around. For the integrity of the gag I'd keep it black Rob.
