Re: Egghead gags
I've made my Easter Egg Gag into an Easter Card.

There can't be very many funny Easter Cards about so worth a shot I figure!
I'm using this one as a get well card!

I understand your point re this but there are two things here that I want to avoid.
First is to avoid adopting a style of drawing that is the 'same' as many other cartoonists or seen as the 'norm'. To me this feels like copying and believe it or not I can copy far easier than I can create so it would be easy to see an overnight improvement in my art if I did this. The second thing is that when it comes to gag cartoons these outside details are a distraction from the gag which is why I tend presently to only draw things that relate to or enhance the gag. However if I am drawing for drawings sake and not to reflect a gag, then I do draw more detail as seen in my singing moon cow and alien cartoons.

Does this make sense?
Re: Egghead gags
ps. If I were to enter a cartoonist competition such as are promoted in the other forum, I would adopt the style as seen above (re aliens and moon cows) as oppose to the digital as this hand drawn and shaded style seems to be favoured by judges.
Check out the winning entries of past competitions

Look at these examples, wonderfully loose!

Yes of course it does, and your approach is to be commended. I'm just being particularly analytical I suppose because I guess I come from the Old School and I just want to impart what I know to not just you, but to anyone reading this thread really. (although I did go to lengths to put your name in that scan lol.) But you can tell me to butt out.
Hmmmm....a bit tooooo loose for my liking and not really my cup of java. A bit "Gerald Scarfe", who I've never been a fan of. Maybe that's my problem?

Me, I love that style, could eat it up for breakfast
Re you, you have no problem. Not sure why you think you do.
Your gags are VERY funny and your style is uniquely you and I enjoy your gag toons very much. I wouldn't change a thing.
Re the advice. I do welcome it, but I feel I need to explain my own perspective so you don't get cross if my grass isn't all perky next time I draw some! haha
Re: Egghead gags
Meanwhile if you like we could have a 'Simon's tip of the day' forum where you share various cartooning tips as learned on your travels and via your course? That would go down a storm!!
Re: Egghead gags
Ok now, storms, lemme see.......they can be done in photoshop using the...
God no, not "Simon's tips of the day". Call it "How to not make money with cartoons."

Re: Egghead gags
HITLER must surely be one of the easiest-ever Historical character to draw/lampoon....along with Maggie Thatcher, of course......
