Like me you might be wondering how to resize images and pictures for use for various types of printing.

I found this helpful site regarding how to resize pictures and set or change the dpi.

http://www.rideau-info.com/photos/changedpi.html

I then downloaded free program XnView

http://www.xnview.com/en/index.html

I have used it to change size and dpi of a cartoon I drew for a client who had previously had the cartoon rejected by t-shirt printer VistaPrint due to low resolution.

Here is a template letter you can use to demand copied material is removed and monies for use paid.

http://www.artslaw.com.au/legalinformation/CopyrightInfringmentAndLetterOfDemand/default.asp

You need to replace the copyright act stated with whatever legislation is in place in your country and away you go.

In the UK, replace the copyright act quoted in the template with:

Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988.

Check this out

It's a FREE Firefox plugin from

http://www.tineye.com/

You download the plugin then you go to any of your published images and right click it, from drop down menu you then select 'search tineye' and this program searches for duplicate images on the Internet.

I don't think it's 100% foolproof but it's certainly very interesting!

How do you determine if the print resolution of a cartoon is perfect for printing without actually printing it out and looking at it?

Answer:

Here is some great (technophobe friendly) info re understanding print resolution!

Meanwhile I found this

So I'm guessing TIF should be the image format to use for printed items?

This is interesting. You can use this site for reference instead of crappy old "google images" or that pile of encyclopedias in the shed all the time.

Just type in what you want to draw in their search (ie: hands/ feet/ bed/ cat etc) and you get a list of links. Well, for very basic stuff.
